Digital Storytelling with Shadow Puppet (iPad/iPhone app)
Week 5 - Digital Storytelling
Use a series of pictures to tell a story or describe a step-by-step process.
I made this picture collage using Picasa, but there are many other apps or digital photo editing software you can use if you want to make your own. Or, go to Pinterest and browse DIY and other categories to find great process pictures already organized and annotated, ready for your students to use and discuss in class.
Sample Activity
Purpose: To be able to describe a process/give directions about how to do something (in this case, make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich).
Scaffolding: Vocabulary needed to describe steps in a process (e.g., sign post words like first, second, next, then, finally, be sure to…), verbs and utensils needed to do the task.
Directions: (In pairs) Student A narrates the story/process for their partner. Student B retells the story, using motions to act it out like in Charades. Then, students write out the step-by-step process using clear simple sentences.
Evaluation: Can students communicate the information clearly and simply so that someone else can follow or understand?

Week 3 - Computer Mediated Communication
INSTRUCTIONS: Describe what is happening in this video clip from Despicable Me. Write three sentences using the present progressive verb form (be + -ing form, e.g., He is eating the blue popsicle.). Then, describe what you think happens to the minions (the little yellow characters) after this video clip.
